What Is Menopause?

Menopause is the stopping of menstrual cycle in women during their mid to late forties. It is a natural phenomenon in which the ovaries stop ovulating every 4 weeks. In many cultures it considered to be a new birth for a woman. Pregnancy becomes unlikely after Menopause.

What Happens To My Periods After Menopause?

Your periods may not stop altogether immediately but the frequency will be reduced with longer and longer gaps between two periods.

What Other Symptoms Accompany Menopause?

The oestrogen hormone secretion in your reduces body at the age when Menopause occurs. This may cause certain physical symptoms like -

  • Hot flashes
  • Sweating heavily in the nights
  • Frequency shifting moods
  • Dryness in the vagina
Diagnosis And Treatment

In most cases Menopause is not a very challenging condition physically. In some cases the symptoms might interfere with your normal daily life in which case treatment may become necessary.

It is diagnosed by a blood test for follicle stimulating hormone (FSH). If the existence of FSH is lost than the average levels or may indicate Menopause.

For treatment general diet and lifestyle changes are sufficient in most cases. If that doesn't completely relieve the symptoms oestrogen replacement is prescribed by the method of hormone replacement therapy (HRT).

For vaginal dryness, vaginal lubricants are available.

And for mood swings anti depressants are utilized in proper dosages.
